From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

[8][9] In 1948, during de jure educational segregation in the United States, the district had two schools for black children.

[10] In 2018, the district closed Elias Boudinot Elementary School, which had served grades K-2, citing declining enrollment, the opportunities to reduce costs and the potential to raise funds by selling the site.

As a Type II school district, the board's trustees are elected directly by voters to serve three-year terms of office on a staggered basis, with three seats up for election each year held (since 2012) as part of the November general election.

A tenth representative is appointed by Edgewater Park School District to serve on the City of Burlington board of education.
