[2] On February 25, 1911, Sessions was nominated by President William Howard Taft to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan that was vacated by Judge Arthur Carter Denison.
Sessions was confirmed by the United States Senate on March 2, 1911, and received his commission the same day.
[2][1] As a result of the performance of his judicial duties, Sessions' health broke down, circa 1924.
The statute also provided that upon Session's death, resignation or retirement, the resulting vacancy would not be filled.
Fred Morton Raymond was appointed to the new judgeship by President Calvin Coolidge on May 8, 1925.
