The headwaters arise in southwestern Taylor County in southern Iowa at 40°36′08″N 94°53′56″W / 40.6021600°N 94.8988700°W / 40.6021600; -94.8988700.
[1][2] The stream flows to the southwest for approximately six miles and then turns to the west southeast of the community of Clearmont.
Clear Creek crosses under US 71 one half mile south of Clearmont and enters the Nodaway River just to the east of the extinct hamlet of Possum Walk.
[3] The stream has one tributary called South Fork Clear Creek, which is longer at 16.8 miles, and passes through Toad Hollow in a winding route through northern Nodaway County.
