[4] Clinton Township consists of many scattered "islands" of land surrounded by the city of Columbus, the county seat of Franklin County.
[5] Clinton Township was settled in 1800 as a rural community.
In the eastern part of the township, what is now Cleveland Avenue was once known as Harbor Street.
Clinton Township lost territory from the 1950s through the early 1970s via annexation.
[6] The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
