It is coal powered with one steam turbine that generates a total capacity of 300 megawatts of electricity.
The coal is mined locally[3] from the Collie Sub-basin and is transported to the power plant by overland conveyor.
On 14 June 2022 the state government announced that Synergy would close Collie Power Station by 2027.
[4][5] In the financial year of 2008/2009, the station consumed approximately 1 million tonnes (2.2 billion pounds) of coal.
Carbon Monitoring for Action estimates that, in 2009, Collie Power Station emitted 2.59 million tonnes (5.7 billion pounds) of CO2 to generate 2.3 terawatt-hours (8.3 petajoules) of electricity.
