Colombier, Vaud

Colombier (French pronunciation: [kɔlɔ̃bje] ⓘ) is a former municipality in the Swiss canton of Vaud, located in the district of Morges.

[2] Bertha of Swabia (c. 907 – after January 2, 966), Queen consort of Burgundy, married with Hugh of Italy on December 12, 937 in the church of Colombier.

Scenes can be seen today on the stained glass windows of the church.

Colombier has an area, as of 2009[update], of 5.3 square kilometers (2.0 sq mi).

[8] Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (420 or 92.1%), with German being second most common (26 or 5.7%) and English being third (3 or 0.7%).

[7] The age distribution, as of 2009[update], in Colombier is; 64 children or 12.5% of the population are between 0 and 9 years old and 75 teenagers or 14.6% are between 10 and 19.

[11] About 66.2% of the total households were owner occupied, or in other words did not pay rent (though they may have a mortgage or a rent-to-own agreement).

[15] In the 2007 federal election the most popular party was the SVP which received 24.17% of the vote.

In the federal election, a total of 149 votes were cast, and the voter turnout was 45.2%.

[8] There were 242 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 41.3% of the workforce.

In the tertiary sector; 5 or 12.5% were in the sale or repair of motor vehicles, 2 or 5.0% were in the movement and storage of goods, 3 or 7.5% were in a hotel or restaurant, 1 was a technical professional or scientist, 3 or 7.5% were in education and 12 or 30.0% were in health care.

[8] From the 2000 census[update], 69 or 15.1% were Roman Catholic, while 297 or 65.1% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.

In the Vaud cantonal school system, two years of non-obligatory pre-school are provided by the political districts.

[19] During the school year, the political district provided pre-school care for a total of 631 children of which 203 children (32.2%) received subsidized pre-school care.

The canton's primary school program requires students to attend for four years.
