Courfaivre

Courfaivre is a former municipality in the district of Delémont in the canton of Jura in Switzerland.

[4] The former municipality is located in the Delemont district, on the Delemont-Glovelier road on the right bank of the Sorne river.

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Gules bordered Or, a Cat Argent sejant guardant.

[8] Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (1,412 or 91.9%) as their first language, German is the second most common (48 or 3.1%) and Italian is the third (27 or 1.8%).

[13] In the 2007 federal election the most popular party was the SPS which received 38.59% of the vote.

In the federal election, a total of 413 votes were cast, and the voter turnout was 38.6%.

[8] There were 770 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 41.4% of the workforce.

In the tertiary sector; 44 or 42.7% were in wholesale or retail sales or the repair of motor vehicles, 6 or 5.8% were in the movement and storage of goods, 7 or 6.8% were in a hotel or restaurant, 11 or 10.7% were the insurance or financial industry, 8 or 7.8% were technical professionals or scientists, 13 or 12.6% were in education.

[8] From the 2000 census[update], 1,153 or 75.0% were Roman Catholic, while 139 or 9.0% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.

This is followed by three years of obligatory lower Secondary school where the students are separated according to ability and aptitude.

[17] During the 2009-10 school year, there were a total of 162 students attending 9 classes in Courfaivre.

As of 2000[update], there were 124 students from Courfaivre who attended schools outside the municipality.
