Ctenoides scaber, the flame scallop or rough fileclam, is a species of saltwater clam, a marine bivalve mollusc in the family Limidae.
It is similar in appearance to the Indo-Pacific electric flame scallop (Ctenoides ales).
The flame scallop's vibrant red color is due to the large amount of carotenoids found within their body.
Flame scallops rest in their own "nests", which are made of small coral pieces and rocks.
During the consumption process, flame scallops sift and sort through the phytoplankton with their palps to determine what is appropriate for ingestion.
