The original hospital buildings and gatehouse were added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.
Berry left £100,000 "for the purpose of erecting a hospital for diseases for the benefit particularly of inhabitants of Broughton Creek and the District of Shoalhaven".
It is also of architectural and aesthetic significance for is association with designer Colonial Architect Walter Liberty Vernon and Howard Joseland.
