David Candler

David Cecil Candler (18 October 1924 – 17 April 2008) was a Zimbabwean first-class cricketer, mathematician, educator and clergyman.

He was educated at the Bulawayo Technical School, before studying in South Africa at the University of Cape Town.

[1] After graduating from Oxford, Candler returned to Southern Rhodesia where he became a senior mathematics lecturer at Bulawayo Technical College.

[1] In 1956, he attended St Paul's Theological College, Grahamstown and was ordained as a deacon in 1956, before becoming a priest in 1957.

During the Rhodesian Bush War of the 1960s and 1970s, the school at Plumtree came under threat of attack and a number of former pupils were killed.
