He graduated in theatre at Studio 58, Langara College in Vancouver[1] and began acting at the age of 17.
Lovgren appeared in the feature films Cool Runnings (1993),[2] Live Bait (1995) and Antitrust (2001).
Ken Eisner of Variety wrote that "Lovgren spookily recalls the young Christopher Walken"[3] and Marc Horton of the Edmonton Journal wrote that Lovgren's was the best performance in Something More (1999).

On the stage, he appeared in a 1997 production at Richmond Gateway Theatre of Death of a Salesman, in which he played Happy Loman, and for which he received positive notice in The Province.
