[3] Much of the land in the township is part of the Deford State Game Preserve and is drained by tributaries of the Cass River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.4 square miles (91.7 km2), of which 35.4 square miles (91.7 km2) is land and 0.03% is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,946 people, 621 households, and 485 families residing in the township.

There were 679 housing units at an average density of 19.2 per square mile (7.4/km2).

18.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
