Deniyaya

Deniyaya is a small town located towards the south of Sri Lanka.

[1] The town of Deniyaya was founded along the Gin River in 1904 to serve neighbouring tea estates.

[2][3] Following the introduction of proportional representation in the 1978 Constitution of Sri Lanka, the Deniyaya Electoral District was replaced by the Matara Electoral District at the 1989 Sri Lankan parliamentary election.

The town is a popular 'base' for tourists exploring the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Sinharaja Forest Reserve.
