He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Florida in 1968.
He received a Juris Doctor from the Fredric G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida in 1972, and had served as student government president during his time in law school.
[1] From 1973 to 1974, Middlebrooks was in private practice in Orlando, and was an assistant general counsel, governmental assistant, and general counsel for Governor Reubin Askew from 1974 to 1977.
He returned to private practice for the next twenty years in West Palm Beach, Florida.
