Despite the well-documented negative effects of doomscrolling on mental health, social media companies are incentivized to maintain user engagement through these methods, making it challenging for individuals to break free from the habit.

Social media algorithms heed the content users engage in and display posts similar in nature, which can aid in the act of doomscrolling.
