[4] El Palmar is situated in the foothills of the Puerto de la Cadena mountain pass and is 5 km from the capital of the municipality (the city of Murcia).
The evidence consists of the archaeological remains of a Roman hamlet whose date is the 2nd century BC.
[4] During the Middle Ages a castle named La Asomada was built in the 12th century.
[5] As a result of the population increase in the 17th century the locality obtained the status of the villa.
[4] As the Spanish Constitution of 1812 came into effect, the current district obtained its own status as a municipality.
