Emmy Okello

Emmy Okello, is a Ugandan consultant physician who has specialized as an interventional cardiologist and researcher.

[1] Okello has special interest in rheumatic heart disease (RHD), and is one of the recognized leaders in this area of cardiology in the region.

He then underwent a one-year fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, Ohio, United States.

[3] His doctoral thesis was titled "Burden, Risk Factors And Outcome of Rheumatic Heart Disease in Uganda".

He also found genetic susceptibility to RHD related to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II Human Leucocyte Antigens (HLA) DR–11.
