[2] Mayweather expressed a desire to fight then-WBC super welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya and so Mayweather relinquished his IBF welterweight title in anticipation of the mega bout.

Subsequently, the vacant IBF welterweight title was won by Kermit Cintron.
