[1] Early in his life, he participated in several military exercises, fighting against the forces of Cesare Borgia.

[1] His uncle Pope Leo X made him a cardinal deacon in the consistory of 1 July 1517.

[1] He received the red hat and the deaconry of San Giorgio in Velabro on 6 July 1517.

[1] On 18 January 1519 he was named administrator of the see of Boiano, holding this post until 24 July 1523.

[1] He was married to Violante Orsini di Mugnano and had five legitimate children.
