Frank Morgan (mathematician)

Frank Morgan is an American mathematician and the Webster Atwell '21 Professor of Mathematics, Emeritus, at Williams College.

He is known for contributions to geometric measure theory, minimal surfaces, and differential geometry, including the resolution of the double bubble conjecture.

[2][3] In 1993 Morgan received the Deborah and Franklin Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics.

[6] He is known for proving, in collaboration with Michael Hutchings, Manuel Ritoré, and Antonio Ros, the Double Bubble conjecture, which states that the minimum-surface-area enclosure of two given volumes is formed by three spherical patches meeting at 120-degree angles at a common circle.

Such deformed volume measures suggest modifications of the Ricci curvature of the Riemannian manifold, as introduced by Dominique Bakry and Michel Émery.
