To learn more about figure painting she became an apprentice and partner of artist Charles Meere who had been her life drawing teacher.
[6] Robertshaw began painting moody landscapes, but turned to more modernist ideas, influenced by school and her surroundings.
[8] In 1944 (also attributed as 1938[6]), Robertshaw completed a standing nude self-portrait which she submitted to the New South Wales Travelling Art Scholarship competition.
Standing Nude was regarded as "the star attraction" of the 2001 Modern Australian Women exhibition, which debuted at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
[12] In August 2023, The Bushwalkers was identified, having been collected by a grandparent of a family living in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales.
[14] In 2005, she was represented in Heaven on Earth, Visions of Arcadia, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre.
[6] In 2020 Robertshaw was represented in the exhibition Know My Name, Australian Women Artists 1900 to today, at the National Gallery of Australia.
