Charlemagne was an 80-gun French ship of the line.
She was laid down in 1850, launched on 16 January 1851 and commissioned on 14 September 1851 before being completed in December.
[2] The ship was sent by Napoleon III to the Black Sea as a show of force in violation of the London Straits Convention just prior to the Crimean War.
