George Washington Carver High School (Waco, Texas)

Carver was opened in 1956 on Dripping Springs Road as part of the La Vega Independent School District in 1956, although it would later become part of the Waco Independent School District.

[1] In 1967 the band, under direction of Robert E. Lee won the grand prize at the Montreal World's Fair.

When school started, a walkout was organized because La Vega did not retain Carver coach Clarence Chase.

After closing, the site was heavily vandalized in the year in which it remained vacant.

It was then used by community organizations YMCA and Meals on Wheels before being repurposed for special education in 1980.
