Gerald Gartlehner (born 30 March 1969, Steyr) is an Austrian physician, health scientist and clinical epidemiologist.
Considered a pioneer in the field of evidence-based medicine in Austria, Gartlehner has dedicated much of his career to establishing and promoting the use of evidence syntheses to make sound clinical and health policy decisions.
Until 2007, he worked at the Sheps Center for Health Services Research at the University of North Carolina, specializing in evidence syntheses.
[4] Since 2011, Gartlehner has been deputy director of RTI International - University of North Carolina Evidence-based Practice Center in the United States.
In February 2020 the WHO tasked Gerald Gartlehner to head an emergency team for producing rapid summaries of evidence-based research studies regarding COVID-19.
