From 1980 to 1986 Gerd Hurm studied English, German, and Geography at the University of Freiburg, Germany; as an exchange student he also attended King's College London, Great Britain and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA.
Together with Professor Wolfgang Klooß he founded the Trier Center for American Studies (TCAS) in 2004, of which he is also the director.
