On April 5, 1880, at the camp, area residents met and elected officers for their newly formed township.
The longest serving Township Supervisor was Wiley E. Sims (1901-1905, 1921-1928).
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,072 people, 1,343 households, and 957 families residing in the township.
There were 3,366 housing units at an average density of 121.8 per square mile (47.0/km2).
25.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
