The movement spread quickly and in 1968 the first training was held in Funafuti, with the assistance of a trainer from New Zealand.

[2] She was appointed the first Tuvalu Girl Guides Commissioner.

Earlier in 1966 she set up the Olave Kindergarten, named after the founder of the Girl Guides Movement, Lady Olave Baden Powell.

[2] Lady Latasi later became the first woman to be elected to the Parliament of Tuvalu.

Meleta Faaalo was a subsequent Girl Guides Commissioner.
