God Moves in a Mysterious Way

"God Moves in a Mysterious Way" is a Christian hymn, written in 1773 by the 18th-century English poet William Cowper.

The text was first published by Cowper's friend, John Newton, in his Twenty-six Letters on Religious Subjects; to which are added Hymns in 1774.

"[2] God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform; He plants his footsteps in the sea, And rides upon the storm.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, But trust him for his grace; Behind a frowning providence, He hides a smiling face.
