The species has been identified in Angola, Congo, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa.
Initially placed in the genus Asemonea , the species was moved to Goleba in 1980 by Fred Wanless.
[3][4] Goleba punctata have light green, pear-shaped carapaces (with females being slightly larger and rounder than males) parallel brown stripes on the thorax, and black markings around all but the anterior median eyes.
[5][3] The eyes are in four rows on high tubercles with the posterior median pair being the largest.
The abdomen is narrower than the carapace with a poorly defined pattern of reddish-brown hairs.
