Grammostola anthracina is a species of spider belonging to the family Theraphosidae (tarantulas).
[1] The species was first described in 1842 by Carl Ludwig Koch as Mygale anthracina.
(As the Greek word pelma is neuter,[3] the correct form of the species name in this combination is anthracinum, as used by Carl Friedrich Roewer in 1942, for example.
[2] Grammostola anthracina is characterized by having an entirely brown body; females have long spermathecae with a rounded apex.
Urticating hairs of types III and IV are present on the upper surface of the abdomen.
