The 23-kilometre (14 mi) long fjord is an arm off of the main Astafjorden.
At that point, the Årstein Bridge on Norwegian County Road 825 crosses the fjord.
[2] The villages of Fjordbotn and Elvenes are located at the innermost part of the fjord.
Årstein, Åkeneset, and Foldvik are located along the central part of the fjord.
The European route E06 highway passes about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) southeast of Fjordbotn and Elvenes.
