[2] The constituency consists of the town of Grootfontein and the surrounding rural area.
It was split off following a recommendation of the Second Delimitation Commission of Namibia, and in preparation of the 1998 general election.
[3] Grootfontein is traditionally a stronghold of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) party.
In the 2004 regional election, SWAPO candidate Peter Kanana received 4,664 of the 6,140 votes cast and became councillor.
Wimmerth of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM, the new name of the DTA) came third with 790 votes.
