It is located on the neck of land between the lakes Suontee and Vahvajärvi.
Most notable landmark is Herranmäki, a hill 543 feet (166 m) high where a wooden triangulation tower once stood.
Now the hilltop grows lodgepole pine.
The nearest store is now in the neighbour village Tuukkala.
Hämeenmäki has a nice swimming beach, Palmuranta, 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) west at lake Suontee.
