Haugwitz

The House of Haugwitz (Graf von Haugwitz, Czech: (Czech branch) Haugvicové) is the name of an old and influential Saxon noble family originating from the Meissen region.

It spread to the area of Germany (Meissen), Silesia (where more than 12 lineages were created), then to Bohemia and Moravia.

At the beginning of the 15th century, the important representatives of the family included Mikuláš Haugvic from Tuhaneč, the court Marshal of Queen Sophia, the wife of Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia.

In 1346, the brothers Otto, Sweydiger, and Kilian von Haugvic settled in Biskupice, Silesia, who founded the new dynastic Haugvic family from Biskupice, which continued to function independently and eventually became the most important Haugvic faction in Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia.
