The census-designated place of Chief Lake is located in the town.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 3,279 people, 1,219 households, and 898 families residing in the town.

There were 1,841 housing units at an average density of 32.1 per square mile (12.4/km2).

21.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
