The Nakhchivan Branch of the Military Lyceum named after Jamshid Nakhchivanski, also known as the Heydar Aliyev Military Lyceum (Azerbaijani: Heydər Əliyev adına Hərbi Lisey) is a state school, specializing in military science located in the city of Nakhchivan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
It was established in 1998 by decree of President Heydar Aliyev dated to 13 March and by the order of Defence Minister Safar Abiyev on 9 April.
[1] Speaking about the need to establish this institution, Aliyev said that "Historically, young people from Nakhchivan tended to become officers", primarily referencing the "six generals in the army of Tsarist Russia from the Kangarli dynasty".
[9] Boys who have completed the 8th grade and reached the age of 14 can be admitted to the lyceum with a 3-year education period.
An example of this would be Turkish Armed Forces officer Safa Aydin, who served with the lyceum in its early years.
