Holden Arboretum

Holden is home to two National Natural Landmarks, accessed by guided hikes, and is a Midwest representative for The Center for Plant Conservation.

When he died in 1913, at age 46, Mr. Holden left a trust agreement in which he provided that funds be designated for an arboretum.

The goal of natural areas management is to maintain and ultimately increase species diversity of both flora and fauna.

In order to preserve our native habitats, plant community surveys are conducted by Holden staff to inventory the composition of the existing flora.

The REU grant project is designed to train the next generation of research scientists and foster an interest in post-graduate education in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Holden Arboretum hosts a number of special events and exhibits on the grounds, designed to help people connect with and enjoy the outdoors.
