[3] On 11 March, the prime minister said a scheme was being planned to allow members of the public to house refugees in their homes.

[5] The website for the Homes for Ukraine scheme was launched on 14 March,[6] with more than 100,000 people and organisations registering an interest in housing refugees within the first day.

[17] Hosts may ask refugees to pay a reasonable and proportionate contribution (according to use) for water, gas and electricity consumed or supplied to the accommodation or to any shared facilities.

[19] In May 2023, one of the architects of the plan, Dr Krish Kandiah, urged the British government to adopt a similar scheme for refugees from Sudan.
