Horry County Schools

The district is made up of nine attendance areas: Aynor, Carolina Forest, Conway, Green Sea Floyds, Loris, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Socastee, and St.

The HCS Early College High School[6] targets students in grades 9-12 who are under-represented in post-secondary education, and allows them to obtain two years of college credit while also earning a high school diploma.

[7] The district also has the Playcard Environmental Education Center which "instruct[s] students in the natural sciences on site, enabling them to experience first-hand the inter-relationships of living things.

[11] Board meetings are generally held on the last Monday of the month and work sessions held on the 2nd Monday of the month though the district calendar contains an accurate listing of all board meetings.

[15] The expansion continued the following year when twelve more books were added,[16] including Ta-Nehisi Coates' Between the World and Me, which gained media attention when it was banned in another South Carolina school district in 2023.
