Hortia superba is a mid-story rainforest tree in the Citrus, or Rue, family (Rutaceae).
[2] The tree grows to about 82 feet (25 m) in height by about 10 inches (25 cm) thick.
It is unbranched or rarely branched; the branches being vertical or nearly vertical (reiterations), the trunk and each reiteration topped by a cluster of very large leaves up to 4 feet (120 cm) long by up to 9 inches (23 cm) in width.
The inflorescence is a terminal thyrse up to 3 feet (91 cm) in diameter.
The fruit is a globular berry up to 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) long and almost as wide containing several seeds.
