Huancaray (from Quechua Wankaray,[1] meaning "to gobble") is one of the nineteen districts of the Andahuaylas Province in Peru.
[2] One of the highest peaks of the district is Wamanripa at approximately 4,200 m (13,800 ft).

Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (89.23%) learnt to speak in childhood, 10.23% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).
