In-camera editing is a technique where, instead of editing the shots in a film into sequence after shooting, the director or cinematographer instead shoots the sequences in strict order.
The process takes a lot of planning so that the shots are filmed in the precise order they will be presented.
When the last scene is filmed by the director or cinematographer, the production is completely finished.
[1][2] A benefit of the technique, largely now irrelevant due to the rise of digital video, is a reduction in the cost of the production.
Many introductory video production courses cover the topic of in-camera editing for this very purpose.
