James Higginbotham FBA (17 August 1941 – 25 April 2014) was a distinguished professor of Linguistics and Philosophy at the University of Southern California.
Higginbotham earned a Ph.D. in philosophy at Columbia University in 1973[1] under the supervision of Sidney Morgenbesser and Charles Parsons.
He taught at Columbia until 1980, when he moved to MIT as associate professor of philosophy and linguistics.
He was also the Vera Brittain Visiting Fellow at Somerville College in 2009.
