James Lutyens Mansfield (6 September 1841[1] – 20 December 1888[2]) was a Scottish amateur golfer who played in the late 19th century.
Bob Ferguson won the Championship for the third successive time, by three strokes from Willie Fernie.
Fitz Boothby, a local amateur, scored 86 despite a couple of sevens in the closing holes.
Starting home he continued to score well and, despite a few sixes on his card, he avoided major disasters and finished with an 88 and a total of 171.
In 1885 he lost in the first round but In May 1888 at Prestwick he reached the quarter-finals before losing to the eventual winner John Ball 2 and 1.
