James Shepherd (New Zealand cricketer)

[1] Shepherd was born at Reefton in the Buller District of New Zealand's West Coast Region in 1892.

[2] He made his representative debut for Otago against Canterbury in March 1913, making scores of eight and 16 runs and failing to take a wicket in the four overs he bowled in the match.

During the war Shepherd, who in civilian life worked as a warehouseman for JE Butler Limited in Dunedin, enlisted in the New Zealand Field Artillery, serving as a gunner between 1916 and 1919.

[3] Following his war service Shepherd returned to Dunedin where he lived with his wife.

In a total of 29 first-class matches he scored 1,685 runs and took 21 wickets.
