[3] In the same year, he came third in the 10 metre tower competition at an invitational event in Brno, Czechoslovakia.
[11][12] He competed at the Championships despite having fractured his thumb five weeks beforehand,[12] and as a result of his victory, he was selected for the men's 10 metre platform event at the 1988 Summer Olympics.
[13] After retiring, Hirst worked as a personal trainer,[14][15] and set up a company Training Zone Fitness Consultants Inc.
In 2002, Hirst was inducted into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame.
[15] Hirst's wife Anna Dacyshyn was also a diver, who was inducted into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
