[6] The newspaper published its first issue on January 15, 1948, under the name The Phoenix Jewish News.

[8] Cecil and Pearl Newmark (who had come to Arizona in 1946) purchased the newspaper in 1961, and owned and operated it until 1981.

[8][12] In 1981, they sold it to their daughter Florence (Flo) Eckstein (who serves as its editor and publisher) and her husband, Paul.

[17] On May 18, 2009, the Arizona Chapter of the American Jewish Committee presented the newspaper with the RosaLee Shluker Community Service Award in honor of its 60th anniversary.
