Joanne McDonald

Joanne McDonald OC ONL (born 1952) is a Canadian wheelchair sport athlete and disability rights advocate.

She played on the Canadian women’s national wheelchair basketball team from 1974 to 1985 and competed at the 1976, 1980, and 1984 Paralympic Games.

[5] McDonald received an honorary doctor of laws from Memorial University in 2016.

[2] With Mary Reid, McDonald co-created History of Disability Rights N.L., an organization that collects, preserves, and promotes disability history in Newfoundland and Labrador.

[6] She was born in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador in 1952 with spina bifida.
