Joe Jones (tight end)

Jones attended Forest Hills High School, where he practiced football, basketball and track.

He began his college career as a backup tight end, playing mainly on special teams.

As a senior, he became a starter at tight end, leading the team with 39 receptions for 452 yards and one touchdown.

After this year he was a Second team All-South Independent (1984) Jones was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 10th round (270th overall) of the 1985 NFL draft.

Jones was serving as a graduate assistant coach at Virginia Tech, when he was signed in September, to be a part of the Colts replacement team.

[13] In 1996, he was named the football head coach at Smithfield High School,[14] until resigning at the end of the 2001 season.
