John J. Foote

John Johnson Foote (February 11, 1816 – April 15, 1905) was an American merchant and politician from New York.

[1] On September 24, 1839, he married Mary Crocker (1819–1908), and they had three children.

He entered politics as a Whig, was a delegate to the Anti-Nebraska Party state convention in 1854, and joined the Republican Party upon its foundation.

In 1865, he sold his business in Hamilton, and removed to a farm in Belvidere, Illinois.

From 1873 to 1876, he was Auditor of the New York City Post Office under Postmaster Thomas L. James.
